A multidisciplinary spectacle about one of the greatest drivers ever is set to debut on the stage of Riachuelo Rio Theatre

The Aventura Entretenimento production combines elements of musical theatre, circus and contemporary dance under the direction of Renato Rocha

The story of Ayrton Senna, a three-time Formula One world champion, made him known as one of the greatest racing drivers ever, a national hero and an international idol. But the essence of his personality and character – defined by his determination and solidarity – is the actual focus of “Ayrton Senna, The Musical”, which is set to open at the Riachuelo Rio Theatre on November 10.  Produced by Aventura Entretenimento (responsible by the Brazilian productions of Hair, The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz), in a partnership with the Senna family and presented by Bradesco, “Ayrton Senna, The Musical” is Aventura’s 24th production in nine years of activity, and a different spectacle than anything the company has ever done. “To talk about Ayrton Senna, we must fly high”, says Aniela Jordan, partner-director of Aventura, along with Fernando Campos, Luiz Calainho and Patrícia Telles. “Ayrton Senna, The Musical” is sponsored by Atlas Schindler, Riachuelo, Sem Parar, Volkswagen Financial Services and supported by Alelo and White Martins. Avianca is the official transportation company and Localiza Hertz is the official rental car service.

Hugo Bonemer (Hair, Yank!, Rock in Rio, The Musical and  A Lei do Amor) was the actor chosen to play the lead, as Ayrton Senna, and he will be supported by a cast of 24 actors. The speed that marked Ayrton Senna’s life will be represented on the stage by aerial and pendulum acts and by the light and sound design that the audience will experience during the performance.  The play will be directed by Renato Rocha, who developed an international career for almost 10 years, and became renowned for combining the circus and the theatre. Renato has created spectacles in London (for the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Roundhouse, LIFT (the London International Festival of Theatre) and Circolombia), to the Marseille International Arts Biennial, the Leicester International Dance Festival, the European Union and the Unicef. “Ayrton Senna, The Musical” has other heavy-hitters in the creative team, like Claudio Lins and Cristiano Gualda as writers and composers, Gringo Cardia as art director, Dudu Bertholini on costumes, Felipe Habib as musical director, Daniel Castanheira as sound designer, Lavínia Bizzotto as choreographer and Anderson Montes as make-up artist.
